SUMMARY:Historic House Tours- Fall Splendor
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a perfect family getaway at Martin House Farm. Glimpse back into a time of simplicity and immerse in the naturalistic beauty of this rare 18th and early 19th-century farm which still retains the character of its original setting. After the house tour\, peek into the hay barn and visualize the days gone by when the farmer was storing his hay there for bedding\, covering crops\, and feeding animals. Explore all that the surrounding woodlands have to offer\, and don’t forget to take a picture in front of the iconic Martin House Farm stone wall.\n\nIf you hear Von Trapps voices carrying through the wind\, that would be our local Joseph Case High School’s Theatre Department! Catch one of the 3 mini-concerts throughout the day\, and while you tour the house\, keep your ears open for segments of patriotic period music!\n\nThis home was lived in continuously by members of the Martin family for over 200 years. It is furnished with a number of Martin family pieces and with Mrs. Allien’s collection of American and English antiques. The beds\, nestled in the cozy bedrooms are dressed in period coverings hand sewn with reproduction fabrics. This House Museum came about thanks to Susan Taber Martin Allien\, an eighth-generation Martin\, who donated the property to NSCDA MA in 1930\, trusting them to preserve and maintain the 60 acres\, barn\, and homestead.\n\nMartin House Farm is owned and operated by The National Society of The Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (NSCDA MA). This nonprofit organization is celebrating its 128th year of service promoting its missions\, which include historic preservation\, patriotic services\, and sponsoring of veterans programs and educational programs focused on early US history.\n\nMartin House Farm is located at 22 Stoney Hill Road\, Swansea\, MA. Admission: $5\, children under 12\, active military and families- free\n\nOPEN: Sunday’s from 1- 4pm through September. Please visit our website NSCDAMA.org or our Martin House Farm Facebook page for more information. Many special events are planned for this summer
