SUMMARY:(Members Only) 17th Annual Jean Brett Lecture\, Nina Sankovitch
DESCRIPTION:Join the NSCDA-MA for the 17th Annual Jean Brett Lecture. This year will feature Nina Sankovitch\, the author of American Rebels: How the Hancock\, Adams\, and Quincy Families Fanned the Flames of Revolution. The lecture starts at 6:15 PM with mocktails/cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 7:15 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNina Sankovitch \nAmerican Rebels: How the Hancock\, Adams\, and Quincy Families Fanned the Flames of Revolution by Nina Sankovitch is a historical book that explores the intertwined lives of these three prominent Massachusetts families and their crucial roles in sparking the American Revolution. \nThe book details how childhood friendships in Braintree\, Massachusetts\, between figures like John Hancock\, John Adams\, and Josiah Quincy Jr.\, and their wives Abigail Adams and Dorothy Quincy Hancock\, evolved into a powerful collaboration against British rule\, covering events from the Boston Massacre to the Declaration of Independence. It offers a fresh perspective by focusing on these families’ personal connections\, shared sense of duty\, and the significant impact of the women in their lives. \nJean Brett Memorial Lecture  \nThe inaugural Jean Brett Memorial Lecture was held February 13\, 2008. This special endowed annual lecture is a gift from NSCDA MA member Jan Churchill Brett in memory of her mother Jean Thaxter Brett\, longtime active member of the Massachusetts Society. Jan Brett and her husband\, Joe Hearne\, along with her two sisters are invited as special guests. \n$70 Per Person – Guests are Welcome \nReservations must be received by February 25\, 2025 \nNo reservations or refunds for cancellations after that date.

SUMMARY:House of Worth: Americans in Paris
DESCRIPTION:Running it back\, because it’s worth it! \nTickets can be found here. \nWe are pleased to announce that we are re-running House of Worth: Americans in Paris\, and this time as a virtual program. Curator & Costume Collection Manager\, Liz Weisblatt will explore how French designer Charles Worth became so popular in America. What made his gowns so appealing? How did the high-end fashion market operate in the nineteenth century? \nThis event includes a rare opportunity to view pictures of several Worth gowns in the costume collection of the NSCDA-MA. \nCharles Worth is considered by many to be the father of haute couture\, or high fashion. In the late nineteenth century\, many wealthy American women traveled to Paris to visit and patronize the House of Worth\, where he put on fashion shows and created seasonal collections.
